Successful certification of the Head and Neck Tumour Centre at Magdeburg University Hospital
The Head and Neck Tumour Centre (KHTZ) at Magdeburg University Hospital has been certified for the first time by the German Cancer Society in collaboration with OnkoZert, an independent institute. This certification attests to the centre's high quality in the holistic care of patients with tumours in the head and neck area.
As part of the oncology centre, which was already certified in 2020, the interdisciplinary KHTZ is headed by Prof. Dr Martin Durisin, Director of the University Clinic for Ear, Nose and Throat Medicine and Head and Neck Surgery, and Dr Christian Zahl, Director of the University Clinic for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Magdeburg.Christian Zahl, Director of the University Clinic for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Magdeburg. The centre offers patients access to all modern and evidence-based treatment methods, based on the latest scientific findings and using the latest technologies. The certification also emphasises the intensive interdisciplinary cooperation within Magdeburg University Medicine.
The centre directors emphasise: "Certification is not an end in itself, but a means of offering our patients comprehensive, interdisciplinary care that integrates continuous medical innovations directly into patient care."
At the KHTZ, patients with head and neck tumours receive a rapid diagnosis and individually tailored treatment.During the weekly interdisciplinary tumour conferences, known as tumour boards, each case is discussed individually in order to determine the optimal treatment plan.An experienced team from various disciplines supports the treatment of patients and works closely with the centre. The cooperation partners include specialist areas such as speech therapy/phoniatrics, nutritional medicine, social services and psycho-oncology, which together ensure comprehensive and personalised care.
The German Cancer Society awards its certificates exclusively to institutions that can demonstrate the highest expertise as well as qualitative and interdisciplinary standards in the treatment of cancer patients. This award thus confirms the excellent, quality-assured and leading regional medicine in the treatment of head and neck tumours at Magdeburg University Hospital.
