Giving up was never an option

23.03.2026 -

A mother describes her time with us at the University Clinic for Gynecology, Obstetrics, and Reproductive Medicine in Magdeburg as 10 weeks filled with fear, hope, and perseverance, during which she was hospitalized starting at the 24th week of pregnancy due to cervical insufficiency. Together with our team of doctors, midwives, and nurses, we were able to extend the pregnancy step by step until the birth at 38+6 weeks of gestation.

Cervical insufficiency means that the cervix shortens prematurely, which increases the risk of preterm birth. For affected women, this can mean a long hospital stay and a pregnancy that unfolds very differently than planned.

Our goal at Magdeburg University Medical Center is to prolong a pregnancy for as long as possible in order to provide the best possible conditions for both mother and child.

We thank the family for sharing their story and thereby giving courage to others facing similar challenges.
