Participants wanted for study aged 79 and over
Neuroscientists at the German Centre for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) are currently investigating brain activity during the performance of various memory and navigation tasks in cooperation with the Institute of Cognitive Neurology and Dementia Research at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. Senior citizens aged 79 and over who would like to support research in this area are currently being sought for this study.
The human brain contains a unique network that is responsible for the sense of direction. A closer look at this network could help to better understand the development of Alzheimer's dementia. The researchers also hope to gain new insights into why certain older people continue to show exceptional memory performance even in old age.
The study will take place over five test days and, in addition to an MRI measurement, will include various memory tests and a navigation task in a virtual reality environment. You will receive an allowance of around 180 euros for your participation and have the opportunity to take part in further tests and receive up to 325 euros. As the researchers also want to understand how the brain and memory change over time, the measurements will be repeated after 18 months. Their orientation skills and other memory functions will be tested using state-of-the-art virtual reality technology.
