20.04.2026 -

Prof. Dr. Michael Kreißl of Magdeburg University Hospital was recently appointed Chair of the Thyroid & Endocrine Committee of the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM). In this role, he assumes a key position within the European professional association for nuclear medicine and plays a decisive role in shaping the future development of the field at the international level.

With over 9,000 members, the EANM is the world’s leading scientific society for nuclear medicine and also organizes the field’s largest annual international congress. Prof. Kreißl’s appointment recognizes his longstanding scientific and clinical expertise in the field of thyroid and endocrine-focused nuclear medicine. In his new role, he will play a key role in shaping the further development of guidelines as well as innovative diagnostic and therapeutic concepts at the international level.

Prof. Dr. med. Michael Kreißl has been Chief Physician of Nuclear Medicine at Magdeburg University Hospital since April 2017 and is considered a recognized expert in the treatment of advanced thyroid carcinomas. His research focuses on imaging in thyroid diseases, theranostics (innovative molecular-based diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including for prostate, pancreatic, and breast cancer), and interdisciplinary local therapeutic approaches.

In addition, he serves as spokesperson for the Thyroid Section of the German Society of Endocrinology (DGE). He is also Chair of the Thyroid Committee of the German Society of Nuclear Medicine (DGN). Last year, the Department of Nuclear Medicine at the University Medical Center was also designated a “Theranostic Center of Excellence” by the ICPO (International Centers for Precision Oncology).

Prof. Kreißl is editor-in-chief of the Quarterly Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (QJNMMI) and a reviewer for numerous medical journals. He played a key role in the development of the first interdisciplinary S3 guideline on “Thyroid Carcinoma”—both as a representative of nuclear medicine and as head of the working group for initial diagnostics. He is also responsible for the DKG focus area “Endocrine Malignancies” at Magdeburg University Hospital.
