YOUNG RESEARCH DAY 2026

The Young Research Day 2026 brings together students, doctoral candidates, and early-career researchers from Magdeburg University Hospital to showcase current research, make new connections, and celebrate scientific excellence.

The event is jointly organized by the Commission for the Promotion of Young Scientists (NaKo) and the Health Campus for Immunology, Infectiology, and Inflammation (GC-I³).

Registration
Registration is open from April 6, 2026, to May 3, 2026. Please note: An earlier deadline applies to the “GC-I Best Paper of the Year” competition.

The event is free of charge.
Poster Competition, in which early-career researchers present their current research projects.
Eligible to participate are students, doctoral candidates, and postdocs at Magdeburg University Medical Center from all areas of biomedical and clinical research and health services research. Researchers who are still at the beginning of their scientific careers are also expressly invited to submit their project ideas or initial results.
The posters will be presented during the event and evaluated by a jury.
Categories
The posters will be awarded in three categories:
- Basic Biomedical Research
- Clinical Research / Health Services Research
- Newcomers (Researchers with less than 1 year of research experience)
Poster Awards
In each category, a Best Poster Award will be awarded. The first-place posters will each receive prize money of €400. The award ceremony will take place as part of the closing program of the Young Research Day.
The prize money will be paid to the presenter (first author). The use or distribution of the prize money within the team of authors is at their own discretion.
Poster Submission
Submissions must be made via the Moodle course “Young Research Day 2026”. You will receive the link to the course with your registration confirmation.
For organizational reasons, please submit only one poster per participant.
Participants should upload the following documents there by May 3, 2026:
- Poster abstract
- Optional: Poster (PDF)
All files must be submitted in PDF format.
Guidelines for Poster Abstracts
The abstract should contain a brief summary of the research project.

The words for title, authors, and institutions are not counted. Tables and figures are not permitted.
To participate as a “Newcomer,” please indicate the start date of your doctoral studies.

Poster Format
The poster format is generally open to your choice. The poster walls measure: 120 × 150 cm (W × H). Printing in A0 format is recommended.
Existing posters may also be used, provided their content is up to date.
Information on poster printing
For the printing of scientific posters and banners, please refer to the information provided by the Marketing, Communication, and Media department at Magdeburg University Hospital. Please note that print products are ordered through an external print shop and typically require a cost center. Additionally, delivery times may vary depending on the order volume. Poster Presentation Day
Your poster number will be communicated to you via Moodle after abstract submission.
The jury will evaluate the poster presentations during the following time slots:
• Slot 1 – 5:00–6:00 PM: Posters with odd numbers
• Slot 2 – 6:00–7:00 PM: Posters with even numbers
Please be available at your poster during the time slot designated for your poster number.
Best Paper of the Year (GC-I³)
In cooperation with the Health Campus for Immunology, Infectiology, and Inflammation (GC-I³) the “Best Paper of the Year” will also be awarded as part of Young Research Day. This award recognizes particularly outstanding scientific publications by early-career researchers at the University Medical Center. Submitted publications will be reviewed in advance by a jury. The best contributions will be nominated, and the authors will be notified approximately two weeks before the event. Nominees are invited to present their publication on May 18, 2026 as part of Young Research Day. The award will be presented at the end of the event.
Prizes
The awards are endowed as follows:
- 1st place: €1,000
- 2nd place: €500
- 3rd place: €250

Note regarding photos and video recordings
Photographs and video recordings will be taken during the event for the purposes of documentation, follow-up reporting, and promotion of future events. The subject of these recordings is the event itself and not the individuals participating in it (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
