New implant system for chest wall injuries: first successful application at Magdeburg University Hospital
A patient with a chronic chest wall injury was successfully treated with the new ‘Rib Fix Advantage’ implant system in the thoracic surgery department at Magdeburg University Hospital under the direction of Prof. Dr Thorsten Walles. The innovative system has only been available on the European market for a fortnight. The application in Magdeburg is therefore one of the first uses of this procedure in Germany and Europe.
The patient was suffering from painful, therapy-resistant instability of the chest wall as a result of a previous rib fracture. The innovative procedure restored the mechanical stability of the chest wall and noticeably improved the patient's quality of life. The new implant system enables particularly precise and tissue-sparing treatment of rib fractures - especially in complex or chronic cases.
