With the appointment of Prof. Stephan Fricke, MD, to the newly created W3 professorship for Clinical Immunology and Cell Therapies, Magdeburg University Hospital is specifically expanding its expertise in the field of innovative cell and gene therapies.

Under the motto “Strong together – care connects,” the kick-off event for the 1st Magdeburg Care Day took place on September 30, 2025, on the campus of the University Medical Center Magdeburg (UMMD). The joint initiative of the UMMD and the Magdeburg Municipal Hospital (KMD) was dedicated to the future and diversity of care, with a comprehensive day program that combined specialist lectures, discussions, and practical ideas.

What motivates an anatomist? How can teaching future doctors be combined with cutting-edge international research—and what does the intestinal immune system have to do with it? At the next Medical Sunday, Magdeburg University Hospital, Urania Magdeburg, and Volksstimme, together with Prof. Hermann-Josef Rothkötter, MD, will provide exciting insights into a fascinating field of medicine.

During the two-day kick-off retreat for the new MED-4-SCIENCE academy for young researchers at the Medical Faculty of Magdeburg, young researchers learned how to develop a fundable project from an idea—in a practical, interdisciplinary manner and on an equal footing.

The 30th anniversary of cardiac and thoracic surgery at Magdeburg University Hospital was celebrated with a festive anniversary event on September 25, 2025, in the garden hall of the Gesellschaftshaus. Host Prof. Dr. med. Jens Wippermann, Director of the University Clinic for Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery, invited companions, colleagues, and employees to join him on an exciting journey through the milestones of the specialist department.

The nationwide VersKiK study, led by Magdeburg University Hospital, has been awarded the prestigious Healthcare Research Prize for Children and Adolescents. The prize was presented to Dr. Ekaterina Aleshchenko from the ISMG at OVGU Magdeburg during the German Congress for Healthcare Research 2025 in Hamburg.
