The University Clinic for General, Visceral, Vascular, and Transplant Surgery, headed by Clinic Director Prof. Roland S. Croner, MD, was certified as a Center for Obesity and Metabolic Surgery by the German Society for General and Visceral Surgery (DGAV) in August 2025.

The offer is aimed at patients whose immune system is weakened or malfunctioning—whether due to congenital factors or illness or medical treatment during their lifetime.

On October 6, 2025, Magdeburg University Hospital celebrated the commissioning of a state-of-the-art linear accelerator. The new device stands for precision, gentleness, and progress in radiation therapy. This is an important milestone for oncological care in Saxony-Anhalt.

Ceramic hip implants are considered exceptionally durable and biocompatible; however, they are also subject to long-term changes in the body. A research team at the Orthopedic University Hospital in Magdeburg has conducted the first systematic study on how ceramic hip heads change over time.

The 7th Magdeburg Aortic Symposium provides a platform for interdisciplinary exchange on new treatment approaches and best practices in the treatment of aortic diseases. The focus is on current developments, innovative techniques, and practical case studies.

Prof. Martin Fischer will succeed Prof. Klaus-Dieter Fischer and take over the W3 professorship for biochemistry at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg on October 1, 2025. With his research on gene regulation, the biochemist aims to develop new therapeutic approaches for cancer treatment and take the biochemistry of cellular processes to a new level.
